32-year-old man arrested for domestic violence in Central Province

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Tulagi, Central Province have arrested and charged a 32- year- old man from Haleta village in West Big Gela on allegations of domestic violence on 27 August 2019.

It will be alleged in Court that in the early hours of 25 August 2019, the accused was drunk, came home to his wife and accused her violently of past issues.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander, Central Province Inspector John Sara says, “The accused came home and violently assaulted his wife. Then allegedly punched the victim on her face several times.”

“The victim tried to talk to her husband but to no avail. She then escaped into the bush for her safety leaving her 2-year-old baby behind.”

Inspector Sara adds: “It is further alleged that this is not the first time the accused assaulted his wife. It is alleged that on several occasions in the past he threatened, assaulted and mistreated his wife.”

Upon receiving the report from the community members, officers at the Tulagi Police Station went out to search for the victim with the help of community members and found her hiding in the bush. She was assisted to Tulagi hospital where she received medical assistance.
“I would like to thank my officers for the hard work, dedication and courage in trying to control domestic violence issues in Central Province,” says Inspector Sara.

“I would also like to appeal to newly married couples around Gela and Central Province as a whole that beating, killing and mistreating your spouses is not good. Women are not punching bags. Police will not tolerate such behaviour.”
