16 people questioned for injuring father and son in Makira-Ulawa Province
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Kirakira in the Makira Ulawa have questioned 16 people for an allegation of injuring a father and his son at Naharahau Village, East Wainoni in East Makira on 26 August 2019.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Supervising, Makira Ulawa Province, Inspector Jerry Muaki says, “On Monday 26 of August 2019 Kirakira police received a report from Naharahau Village that a father and his son received injuries to their bodies due to land disputes.”
“The incident relates to an ongoing land dispute which both parties obtained damage for properties and food gardens. It is alleged the incident occurred when the son after having some beer went into the village using some offensive words to another group, which resulted to his attack,” says Inspector Muaki.
He adds: “The next day the father with his son went down again with the father armed with his bow and arrows. He was attacked by the said group where he received a shoulder injury.”
The victim was taken to Kirakira Hospital for treatment and was later discharged.
PPC Muaki says, “Police questioned 16 men and later released them as the investigation continues.”
“Police would like to advice communities in Makira-Ulawa Province that when it comes to land disputes not to resort to illegal means. The village chief, or courts are there to settle land disputes rather than taking or using alcohol and causing problems in the communities. People must listen to the advice of their community leaders and chiefs,” PPC Muaki emphasises.
