Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) in Gizo, Western Province have arrested and charged three brothers from the Gizo Top hill area for alleged common assault following an incident on 6 September 2019.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu says, “The suspects, in their 20’s, are part from Shortland Islands and part Bougainville.”

PPC Lenialu says, “The suspects and the victim, who is also the complainant, were all drunk and challenging each other at that time of the alleged incident. The trio chased the victim and allegedly assaulted him.”

Chief Superintendent Lenialu says, “The trio appeared in the Gizo Magistrates’ Court on 9 September 2019.”

“Drinking is a major factor in many of the injuries that occur on our roads and other accidents as well as social problems including violence, family breakdown, child abuse and others. The irresponsible consumption of alcohol does not only affect the drinker but it also covers family members, bystanders and the broader community. Our young people should not be involved in the consumption of alcohol but find useful activities including church related activities to keep themselves busy and not disturb the peace in our communities,” says PPC Lenialu.
