Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Kukum Traffic Centre in Honiara are continuing to investigate a traffic accident that occurred at Mbokonavera 4 in Central Honiara on 9 September 2019.

Director of the Traffic Department, Superintendent Fredrick Satu says, “It is alleged the bus driver picked up passengers at the Papaho bus stop and was heading to drop passengers at Honiara City Council bus depot. On his way to Mbokonavera 4, the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle and the bus flew over the drain damaging a semi-permanent building as well as two vehicles parked there.”

Superintendent Satu explains: “Unfortunately our officers were not able to breatherlize the driver as he escaped the scene of the accident. There were no major injuries sustained by the passengers.”

“Police would like to call on the driver of the concerned vehicle registration number MC 0260 to come forward to the Kukum Traffic Centre for further questioning in relation to the accident.”

He says, “The safety of any person or passenger travelling in any public or private transport in Honiara and provincial centres is the sole responsibility of the driver of the vehicle. The driver must drive in a safe manner and must concentrate on his or her driving. Drivers driving public vehicles need to undergo appropriate training.”
