RSIPF arrests seven accused in Munda
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Munda Western Province have arrested and charged seven accused for attacking a male person and his son at Kokeqolo on 28 September 2019.
The incident occurred after it was alleged that the victim’s daughter swore at one of the suspect’s niece at a school.
Officer Commanding Station (OCS), Munda Police Station, Sergeant Rachel Lilo says, “It is alleged that in the early hours of 28 September 2019, the victim was asleep in his home when a group of people arrived in two vehicles at the victim’s residence.”
“Upon arrival at the location, the suspects threw rocks on the roof of the house. One of them who was allegedly armed with a knife, struck it on one of the doors to the house several times and called out to the occupants to come out.”
“The victim went out and was punched on the left forehead. He fell down hitting his head on the stone and receiving injuries to his right forehead. He was again punched a second time on the same spot when he stood up. The group of people who arrived in a vehicle then left.”
She adds: “Police attended the report and took the victim to Helena Goldie Hospital for medical treatment.”
“At about 7am on the same day, the suspects returned and attacked the victim and his son again and they both sustained injuries. They threw rocks at the victim’s son when he chased them.”
“On the same day, police identified the suspects and arrested them at their homes. They were taken to Noro Police Station where they were formally arrested and placed in the cell.”
They were released the next day and were charged with multiple counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, criminal trespass, threatening violence and malicious damage. They will appear in Munda Magistrates court on 18 November 2019.
