Three male arrested for selling marijuana in Western Province
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Western Province have arrested and charged three boys at Kindu, Munda for possession of dangerous drugs on 29 September 2019.
The suspects are aged 18, 23 and 25 years old.
Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Munda Police Station, Sergeant Rachel Lilo says, “Police made the arrest and laid the charges after members of the community reported that there were some young people selling marijuana in their community.”
“Officers of the Provincial Response Unit (PRU) in Gizo and Noro responded to the report and raided the suspects’ home. During the raid they confiscated one farmer basket full of dried marijuana and apprehended the three suspects,” says Sergeant Lilo.
They were formally arrested and charged with Possession of Indian Hemp Contrary to Section 8 (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
“I would like to remind young people in Munda that marijuana is an illegal drug. We have already seen that this drug contributes a lot to the social problems in our communities. There are many other legal ways of making money. Stay away from these unlawful activities because once you get caught you will be prosecuted,” Sgt Lilo emphasises.
The three accused were bailed to appear before the Munda Magistrates’ Court on 18 November 2019.
