Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Western Province have arrested and charged a 47-year-old male on an allegation of brewing kwaso at the Waste Water settlement in Noro on 29 September 2019.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu says, “A raid was conducted at the location after it was reported that the accused was cooking kwaso. Cooking apparatus and other utensils used were confiscated and taken as exhibits including 20 litres of distilled kwaso.”

PPC Lenialu explains: “The accused was taken to Noro Police Station where he was charged with one count of Restriction on Making Liquor contrary to Section 50(2) of the Liquor Act.”

“I thank my officers for the job well done during the weekend operation conducted at Munda and Noro. I call on members of the public in both towns and other parts of Western Province to report to police matters concerning kwaso and marijuana. These drugs contribute a lot to the antisocial behaviour in our communities. They are illegal activities as well,” PPC Lenialu emphasises.

As an elderly person, the 47-year-old should set a good example for our young people to follow.”

“There are legal ways of making money rather than getting involved in illegal activities that contribute to the unlawful behaviour in our communities,” PPC Lenialu emphasizes.

The accused was bailed to appear before the Munda Magistrates’ Court on 18 November 2019.
