20-yr-old male person arrested for alleged rape of 13-yr-old girl in Malaita Province
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have arrested a 20-year-old male suspect for the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl at Liwe Village on Small Malaita on 18 October 2019.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province, Superintendent Solomon Sisimia says, “It is alleged that a young person in his 20’s allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl at Liwe Village. As result the relatives of the victim from Kalona, Walade and Fanalei boarded two OBM boats and carried out a dawn raid on the family home of the suspect. They looted and destroyed household properties including beddings, cooking utensils and furniture.”
“Police in Auki responded to the report and quickly calmed the situation down and warned the intruders to return all the items looted from the family home of the suspect. I appeal to both parties to work together with the police to bring the case before the Court,” says PPC Sisimia.
The suspect was arrested and placed in the cell at Auki Police Station as the investigation into the case continues.
“Taking the law into your own hands will result in you facing criminal charges. I appeal to the good citizens of Malaita to approach such incidents in a lawful manner. Allow the police to deal with such matters. I thank members of the community for their continuous support for the police in such situations,” PPC Sisimia emphasizes.
