Police arrest 30-yr-old male person for injuring 19-yr-old in Malaita Province
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have arrested a 30-year-old male suspect for injuring a 19-year-old male person at Fini Village in the Baegu-Asifola, Malaita Province on 23 October 2019.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province, Superintendent Solomon Sisimia says, “It is alleged on the morning 9 August 2019, the 19 years old victim went and confiscated kwaso cooking apparatus at a premises owned by the suspect in an attempt to stop the brewing of the illegal substance. As a result, the suspect allegedly took a knife and injured the victim on his left rips. The victim suffered severe bleeding and was rushed to a nearby clinic.”
PPC Sisimia explains: “The suspect has avoided arrest by the police until yesterday (23 October 2019) when officers at the Malu’u Police Station acted on information from the public and apprehended the suspect and placed in police custody.”
“I would like to thank the chiefs, church elders and the communities within the Royal Harbor area in North Malaita for the assistance they have given the police with this case,” says PPC Sisimia.
“The police is the community and the community is the police. I am urging all communities around Malaita Province to stand together and work with the police to confront the evil of illicit drugs and alcohol from our communities.”
The suspect will appear in the Malu’u Court circuit on 4 November 2019.
