RSIPF farewells a SIPDP advisor
The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) today (31 October 2019) farewelled Solomon Islands Police Development Program (SIPDP) frontline advisor with a certificate of appreciation during the Commissioner’s weekly parade held at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara.
Advisor Kenneth Williams arrived in the Solomon Islands on 19 January 2016 during Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) and continued on under the SIPDP when RAMSI ended in July 2017.
Commissioner of Matthew Varley says, “Advisor Kenneth Williams is an ‘energised and passionate officer’. During his time with RAMSI he was frontline advisor leading the team, which covered Honiara City including the Frontline response, watch house, liquor licencing, Central Response Unit, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Family Violence, as well as the Team for Guadalcanal Police covering the same areas and the Airport Police.”
Advisor Williams also advised the Police Communication Centre (PCC), Kukum Traffic and National Emergency and Special Event Planning (NEMSEP). Since the end of RAMSI he concentrated on the Kukum Traffic Centre, the Police Communications Centre and the airport police and this year police in Guadalcanal
“Mr Williams’s involvement in the successful Firearms Amnesty that was coordinated by the Solomon Islands Government (SIG) with RAMSI’s Participating Police Force (PPF) removing a number of firearms and a lot of ammunition from the communities. He also assisted with the introduction of Random Breath Testing (RBT) into the Solomon Islands with the support of the World Health Organisation (WHO) who donated first twelve Alcolizer devices. This led to a reduction in fatal and serious motor vehicle collisions and a safer community overall,” says Commissioner Varley.
He adds: “Prior to his farewell, Advisor Williams worked together with the Director Traffic Department and Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SICCI) and the Solomon Island Police Support Program (SIPSP) to get the Road Transport Board to meet as it is legislated to do under the Road Transport Act 2009.”
Most recently, Advisor Williams coordinated a Motor Vehicle Collision Investigation course for the RSIPF. This course equipped officers of the Traffic Department with skills, which will assist the RSIPF and the community in crash investigations in the future.
“I feel very humbled to receive the certificate. Any success I’ve been part of here in the Solomon Islands is strictly down to the hardworking and dedicated members of the RSIPF that I have been privileged to work with during my time here. I believe the certificate whilst it has my name on it is dedicated to my RSIPF counterparts. And my encouragement to RSIPF officers is to keep working hard believing that all your hard work is making the Solomon Islands a safer and better place to live,” says Advisor Williams.
