Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have arrested four people in the Monga area in North East Guadalcanal following a raid on alleged kwaso brewing on 11 December 2019.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Guadalcanal Province, Superintendent Nixson Manetoga says, “The raid, which is a joint operation between the Guadalcanal Provincial Response Unit (PRU) and the Honiara City Central Response Unit (CRU), happened after police received a number of complaints from people in Aola who travel by truck from Honiara.”

Superintendent Manetoga says, “It is alleged the people drink kwaso at Monga and stop vehicles and demand money from the drivers and passengers going back home. The drivers and passengers feel threatened.”

“Such unlawful activities have been going on for quite a while now. It needs to stop because such threatening activities are unacceptable within our communities. Many involved in such criminal activities are under the influence of liquor or kwaso.”

“Police in Guadalcanal Province launched the snap operation to help minimise and put a stop to the illegal brewing of kwaso. It will also prevent some kwaso related crimes, which usually disturbs the normal livelihood of communities in rural areas.”

PPC Manetoga explains: “The snap operation is part of a campaign to prevent and reduce crime during the upcoming festive session to enable members of the public to move around freely without fearing for their safety.”
