Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) in Central Province have conducted a two-day workshop on the Crime Prevention Strategy at Yandina in the Russell Islands from 16 to 17 December 2019.

Acting Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Inspector Hugo Maelasi says, “A total of 30 CPC members including two females, attended the training. They were from Yandina, Bulolo, Sunlight, Ligatu and Louna villages.”

“The training was focused on how to implement the Crime Prevention Strategy in the communities. The participants were trained on using the SARA model when dealing with issues happening in the communities. SARA (Scanning, Analyse, Response and Assessment) problem solving model.”

At the end of the training PPC Maelasi told the participants: “You are now equipped with the tools to support you in your communities. Police will not be present every time in our communities. Therefore, you are the eyes and ears of police in our communities. You will have to deal with issues raised within our communities before they are referred to the police.”

“I appeal to the communities to work together with the CPC’s in implementing the Crime Prevention Strategy within our communities. We are so privileged to have these CPCs within our communities. Our communities should work closely with CPCs and police during this festive season to make this Christmas a safe and enjoyable time.”

“I would like to remind those traveling by OBMs during this festive season to check the weather before travelling. Do not consume alcohol while travelling. Police will be checking boats traveling during this festive season. Police will deal with anyone who consumes alcohol while travelling by small boats,” says PPC Maelasi.
