Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) are investigating the discovery of the body of a three to four-month old female baby floating at sea close to the Vila area in West Guadalcanal on 26 December 2019.

Acting Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Guadalcanal Province, Superintendent Nixon Manetoga says, "It is believed the incident happened between 3:30 pm and 9: 30 pm on 26 December. Police further believe that the infant baby girl belongs to a woman from Savo Island who is staying at Vila.”

“Police has already transported the body of the baby to the morgue at the National Referral Hospital while the suspected mother has been placed in custody as investigations into this sad incident continue," says PPC Manetoga.

He adds: "I want to urge young girls and women to seek help from other women or authorities who are willing to assist them with such problems."
