The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) calls on members of the public to quickly report any person missing at sea after two persons from the Visale area in West Guadalcanal went missing at sea during a fishing trip on 28 December 2019.

Director Police Maritime, Chief Superintendent Charles Fox Sau says, “It’s not good to report such an incident after 48 hours. My office only received this report just this morning (30 December 2019) after the incident happened on 28 December 2019.”

Chief Superintendent Sau says, “The two persons, one in his 20s and the other a 26-year-old, went out for a fishing trip on the Archipelagic Waters between the Russell Islands, Isabel and North West Guadalcanal on Saturday 28 December 2019 but have since failed to return home."

“Yesterday (29 December) a search was conducted by the villagers on the South West and North West sea coast of Guadalcanal but they failed to locate the two missing men. Police call on boat and ship owners to look out for these two missing men.”

He says, “ The boat is an Aruligo fibreglass round cabin model banana boat with a red top and blue hull powered by a 40 Horse Power(HP) Yamaha engine. ‘Saint Peter’ is written on the top of the cabin.”

The information has also been reported to the Maritime Rescue and Coordination Centre (MRCC), the Maritime safety authority for coordination.

Anyone with information of any sighting of the two missing men or their boat should contact the Police on phone 23666 or the free toll line 999. The Maritime Rescue and Coordination Centre can be contacted on phone 21609 or free toll line 977.
