RSIPF arrests alleged suspect in death of a 39-year-old mother in Western Province
Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) have arrested a suspect in his 40s in relation to the fatal stabbing of a 39-year-old mother of five children at the Putagita Logging Camp, Roviana Lagoon, Western Province on 5 January 2020.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province, Inspector Justina Fono says, “The suspect, the husband of the deceased escaped from the logging camp in a dugout canoe to Ugele to board a ship from there. With assistance from the community, police was notified and officers arrested the suspect at the Ugele wharf on 6 January 2020.”
“The suspect has been charged for murder contrary to section 200 of the penal code. Police investigators are preparing an application to remand the suspect for his trail at a later date.”
PPC Fono adds: "I appeal to both parties to refrain from taking the law in to your own hands and allow police to investigate the matter."
“As supervising PPC Western Province, I would like to thank the people of Ugele for helping police for the arrest of the suspect. This is a kind of support we should do in our communities to assist police,” says Inspector Fono.
