Grandfather arrested for raping 9-year-old granddaughter in Malaita Province

Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) in Auki, Malaita Province have arrested a 66-year-old grandfather for allegedly raping his 9-year-old granddaughter last year 2019.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province, Superintendent Solomon Sisimia says, “The RSIPF Auki Family Violence team is currently investigating the alleged sad incident of a grandfather raping his 9 year-old granddaughter.”
“The alleged rape occurred on five different occasions since last year in a village in the East Kwara’ae region.”

"The grandfather is charged for rape and now in police custody awaiting his first court appearance on 25 January 2020. The young child is currently with the police for further investigations.”

PPC Sisimia says, “I am deeply concerned about the current trend of such incidents and I would like to call on the good people of Malaita Province to stand up against such incidents and report all cases to the police without delay.”
