RSIPF arrests suspect for grievous harm in Western Province
Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) in Gizo have arrested a male suspect in his 40s following an alleged grievous bodily harm incident at Uzamba, Vella La Vella Island Western Province on 18 January 2020.
Information received by police say on 17 January 2020, the accused told the victim and others to help him dig posts for his dwelling-house and promised that he will provide them a home-made island ram drink after the job had been completed.
After completing the job they started drinking home brew when the argument started between the accused and the victim.
It is alleged while they were still arguing, the defendant lifted up his glass teacup and struck the victim several times on the face causing wounds and a deep open cut.
It is also alleged that the suspect punched the victim on the face causing several injuries to his eyebrow. The victim was transported to Gizo hospital for medical treatment.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Western Province Inspector Justina Fono Mage says, “Police at Gizo was informed of the incident through a phone call between 7 and 8 pm on 17 January 2020. Officers attended to the report and arrested the suspect.”
The suspect was charged with grievous harm under Section 226 of the Penal Code and remanded at the Gizo Correctional Centre to appear at the Gizo Magistrates’ Court later.
“I call on both parties in the incident to refrain from taking the law into their own hands but allow the police to investigate the incident,” says PPC Fono.
She adds: “I want to thank people in the Uzamba area for helping your police in apprehending the suspect. I also appeal to anyone who may have any information on the incident to get in touch with police at Gizo.”
