RSIPF arrests two suspects in the fatal stabbing of a foreign national in Renbel Province

Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) at Tigoa Police Station have arrested two suspects in their 30s following the fatal stabbing today (26 January 2020) of an Indonesian national employed by the Bintang Mining Company operating on Rennell Island.

Assistant Commissioner (AC) Provincial Mr Joseph Manelugu says, “It is alleged the deceased had an argument with two locals from Rennell and as result one of the locals stabbed the victim on his forehead.”

“The victim was rushed to the Tigoa clinic and later died due to the stabbing. The body of the deceased has been transported to National Referral Hospital (NRH) in Honiara for a post-mortem.”

AC Manelugu says, “My condolences to the immediate family, relatives and work colleagues of the deceased after the great loss of one of their members.”

“I call on all parties involved in the incident to refrain from taking the law in to your own hands but allow the police to investigate the matter. Anyone with any information may contact police at Tigoa in West Rennell,” says AC Manelugu.
