Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Auki are investigating a traffic accident involving a Toyota RAV 4 and a Toyota surf vehicle on 25 January 2020 on the Kakobau main road in Auki Malaita province.

The Toyota RAV 4 was travelling in the northerly direction on the west bound lane at a very high speed when it collided with the Toyota surf that was travelling in the southerly direction at a lower speed on the same lane.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province, Superintendent Solomon Sisimia says, “The incident happened on Kakobau road next to Auki clinic on 25 January 2020 at about 7 pm and officers attended and arrested the driver of the RAV 4 for the offence of drink and drive.”

“This incident allegedly involved drink and drive by the driver of the RAV 4 which led to the collision but luckily no one was seriously injured.”

The suspect was charged for drink and drive and will appear in the Auki Magistrates’ Court at a later date

“I want to warn all drivers and road users in Malaita Province to abide by traffic rules when using the road. It is an offence under the Traffic Act to drive under the influence of alcohol,” PPC Sisimia says.
