Chiefs and elders of eight communities in the Russell Islands, Savo and Ngella in Central Province are undergoing gender equality, sexual and gender based violence consultations conducted by the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) at Tulagi with the non-government organization, ‘Stage of Change’ in partnership with the Ministry of Woman, Youth, Children and Family Affairs.

The consultation, by two female representatives from the ‘State of Change’ with the RSIPF Family Violence Coordinator at Tulagi, started on 27 January 2020 and will be completed on 5 February 2020. This will be in preparation for a major awareness program that will start on 10 February and will be completed on 18 February 2020 in the same communities.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Inspector Hugo Maelasi says, “I acknowledge and appreciate this program as it will help in addressing the increasing sexual offences in our communities and our country as a whole.”

PPC Maelasi adds: “I want to thank the officers who were on the ground doing the consultation in each community for their hard work despite many challenges they encountered during their tour. I also want to appeal to the people of Central Province to work closely and respect the officers when they visit your communities.”
