Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force at the Naha Police Station have arrested three youth suspects following an alleged attempted murder incident in the Gilbert Camp area in East Honiara in the early hours of 27 January 2020.

Initial reports say that prior to the incident, the victim left his house and walked down to the Solomon Water area at Gilbert Camp where a drill was located with intension to check the area since stealing is common within the area.

While the victim was on his way he met a male person known to him and then walked further to the drill site and heard some boys drinking and making noise and then decided to walk back home.

It is alleged that while the victim was on his way home he suddenly felt a heavy stone landed on his head and he fell to the ground and became unconscious. He received injuries to his head.

On reaching his home, the victim’s relatives rushed him to the National Referral Hospital in Honiara for medical treatment.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Honiara City George Paikai says, “The incident was reported to police at Naha and three suspects were arrested in connection to the incident.”

“The defendants were charged with attempted murder contrary to section 215 (a) of the Penal Code. They have been remanded at the Rove Correctional Center in Honiara and will appear in Court at a later date.

PPC Paikai says, “I want to appeal to the people in and around the Gilbert camp area to remain calm and allow police to investigate the incident.”
