Central Province Arrest for Serious Assault

Police at Tulagi in the Central Province have arrested and charged a 30-year-old man from Ghumba Village in Small Ngella for alleged two counts of domestic violence and serious assault.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Superintendent Patricia Leta says, “The alleged suspect will appear before court on 16 July 2018 in Tulagi.”

Superintendent Leta says, “It is alleged that on 10 June 2018 the suspect told his 8-year-old son to have his bath but his son refused. As a result the suspect was angry so he kicked and punched his son.”

PPC Leta says, “Upon seeing what happened the suspect’s mother and sister wanted to save the boy. However, the suspect was so furious that he allegedly punched his 50-year-old mother injuring her on her right eyebrow. The suspect also allegedly punched his sister.”

“The matter was reported to Tulagi Police by a village chief. Tulagi police responded on 11 June 2018 and arrested the suspect with the support of members of the community. The victims were assisted with medical attention,” says Superintendent Leta.

PPC Leta says, “I wish to thank the members of the Crime Prevention Committee, community leaders and chiefs of Ghumba Village for assisting my officers which led to the arrest of the suspect.”

He adds: “I want to remind my good people of Central Province, that domestic violence is a crime. Police will take stern action against anyone who commits such crime.”
