On Tuesday 6 December 2016 The RSIPF Fraud Squad arrested and charged a XX year old male person who was formerly Financial Controller for the Ministry of Health and Medical Services with 15 counts of False Pretence as codified in section 308(a) of the Solomon Islands Penal Code.
The charges stem from a complex and extended multi-agency investigation into inflated freighting transactions and a phantom Shipping and Charter service that allegedly provided services to the Department of Health and Medical Services.
The charges are a result of a joint investigation between the Internal Audit Office (IAO), Ministry of Finance and Treasury (MoFT) and the RSIPF.
Mr Dalipada is the third person arrested for their involvement in this offending and is to appear in the Magistrates Court today.
It is alleged that his involvement involves the misappropriation of SBD $7.3 million.
The Commissioner of Police Mr Frank Prendergast states that this is an example of the Multi Agency approach now taken by Government Ministry’s in their combat against Fraud and Corruption.
Commissioner Prendergast acknowledges the efforts of the RSIPF Fraud Squad and the assistance of members of the Internal Audit Office of the Ministry of Finance and Treasury.
He was unable to comment further in respect to this individual offending as the matter was now sub judice. The investigation continues.
