Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Taro Police Station have arrested three suspects between 24-30 years old for allegedly assault causing bodily harm to a 29-year-old man on Taro Island in Choiseul Province on 7 March 2020.

It is alleged that the three suspects attacked the victim using their close fists and as a result, the victim sustained injuries to his lips for which he got few stitches at the Taro Hospital.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province Superintendent Vincent Eria says, “The three suspects were arrested immediately after the incident and were placed in police custody. Two of the suspects are from Choiseul Province while the other one is from Bougainville”

The suspects were later dealt with and charged for the offence of assault causing bodily harm contrary to section 245 of the Penal Code. The two suspects from Taro were released on bail to appear in Court at a later date while the suspect from Bougainville was granted a verbal remand awaiting his Court date.

“I want to appeal to people in and around Taro Island and Choiseul Province as a whole not to take the law into your own hands but to come forward to the police if you have problems that you cannot solve at village or community level. The police is there to help you,” says PPC Eria
