RSIPF investigates alleged malicious damage at Honiara International Airport

Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) at the Henderson Police Station are investigating the alleged malicious damage of runaway lights at the Honiara International Airport on 11 March 2020.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Guadalcanal Province, Chief Superintendent Ishmael Vunagi explains, “Police received the initial report that there were 11 runaway lights including five on the north side, five on the southern side and one on the turning side of the airport were either smashed or pulled out with their stands.”

“A joint investigation team comprising of officers from the Henderson Criminal Investigation Department and Forensic officers from the Rove Police Headquarters are investigating the incident,” says PPC Vunagi.

He adds: “I call on the public in and around the Henderson and Alligator Creek areas to come forward to police with any information that is related to the incident. With your help, we would be able to locate and bring those responsible to face the law.”

“I wish to call on members of the public to respect such important equipment which is located there to save lives. Damaging such instruments could result in a tragic accident,” PPC Vunagi emphasises.
