The number of traffic related cases reported this week compared to last week has reduced according to the Director of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Traffic Department, he advised during the weekly Commissioners operational briefing yesterday at Rove Police Headquarters.
The data provided at the weekly operational briefing shows a good decrease from last week which a total number of 25 reported cases this week compared to 56 cases reported last week.
According to Director Traffic, Mr. Charles Solomon Habatia said, “Seven cases were detected and charges laid for careless driving, two cases for unlicensed motor vehicles, three for uninsured motor vehicles, one permitting unlicensed motor vehicle, two vehicles detected and charged for permitting uninsured motor vehicle, five persons were detect and charged for drink driving, two for driving without valid driving licenses, two for unlicensed driver and one for dangerous loading.
Mr. Habatia stated, “Out of 25 cases reported 23 cases were bailed to court and only two remaining cases are pending investigation by my officers”.
Mr. Habatia said, “Although the number of cases reduced for this week, it is the obligation that traffic officers under my command to ensure that road users and drivers take responsibility for public safety and maintain the traffic rules and regulations”.
He further added, “Since we detected 5 cases of persons driving under the influence of alcohol this week, I will make sure that number of random breath test conducted are increased. Therefore if you thinking of driving your vehicle do not drink and if you thinking of drinking do not drive your vehicle”.
