Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) in the Central Province together with officers from the provincial health and environment divisions and private sector representatives in Tulagi, visited 20 villages on Small and Big Ngella to do awareness talks on the coronavirus (COVID-19) on 22 March 2020.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Inspector Hugo Maelasi says, “During the awareness talks we appealed to members of the communities to continue with the simple hygiene practices such as washing your hands often with soap or hand sanitizer, avoid crowded places and unnecessary outings.”

‘‘We urged all the good people of Central Province to take extra precautionary measures to prevent the coronavirus because it is important that we protect our country, our families and ourselves.”

PPC Maelasi adds: “The team will be looking at visiting the Russell Islands after training this week to conduct awareness on the coronavirus.’’

“All the stakeholders in Central Province have already setup a provincial response plan in case of any outbreak of the coronavirus in the Province and the awareness program is part of the response plan,” says PPC Maelasi.
