Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police force (RSIPF) at the Kirakira Police Station in the Makira Ulawa Province are investigating the sudden disappearance of a one-year- old male child at Hagaehu Village, east of Kirakira town, in the Makira Ulawa Province.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Makira Ulawa Province, Superintendent Peter Sitai says, “It is alleged that at about 8.30 am on 23 March 2020, the mother had walked out from their house and went to a nearby house about twenty meters away to collect a food container. While still on the way, she heard her child cry out but did not bother to check the baby as she knew her husband was still around there with him.”

“On returning to her house a few minutes later the mother questioned her husband as to where their child was and what had happened. In response, the husband told her that he had also heard their baby cry but assumed the child was with his mother so he did not bother.”

PPC Sitai says, “Following this situation the child’s parents started to conduct a search in and around their village by themselves and later with the help of relatives but they were not able to find the child.”

“Police appeal to people in around Hagaehu Village who may have any information about the missing child to come forward and help the police investigation. It is a mysterious incident and it needs the help of everyone. I also appeal to relatives to remain calm while police investigation into the matter continues,” PPC Sitai emphasises.
