RSIPF joins other police forces in the Pacific to discuss COVID-19 responses
The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) today joined other police services throughout the Pacific region through a tele-conference to discuss what each of the services are doing to assist in combating or preventing the coronavirus (COVID 19) from their countries.
Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) Secretariat in Wellington, New Zealand arranged for the tele-conference with all the police commissioners and chiefs in the Pacific today.
RSIPF Assistant Commissioner of Police Corporate Support, Ian Bara, who sat in for the Acting Commissioner in the tele-conference says, “The purpose of the conference is to have all police commissioners update and share information of plans, preparedness and response to the currently COVID 19 in their own jurisdictions.”
“This was a great opportunity for the RSIPF to share its experiences but more importantly to hear from other police forces what they have in their plans especially those countries that have already recorded positive COVID – 19 cases like Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Fiji.”
“Most of the Pacific police services have fully activated their plans and full response to the pandemic because they have COVID-19 cases recorded in their countries, except for some who have not recorded any case who are still in the planning and preparedness phase,” says ACP Bara.
He adds: “We greatly appreciate the initiative by the PICP Secretariat to share ideas on how to maintain law and order during such a pandemic something that most police services especially the RSIPF have never experienced before. This is one of the benefits of being a member of such a family of police services as the PICP.
”
The following police Commissioners and Chiefs from the following countries also participated in the teleconference:
Australia; New Zealand; Fiji; Papua New Guinea; Nauru and Niue.
