A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Program was delivered to 26 Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Officers over a three (3) week period at Rove Police Academy in Honiara. The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is the qualification for working as a Trainer and Assessor. The program is designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of the RSIPF to design, deliver and assess Competency-Based Training in the workplace.The program delivery and structure was provided by HBA Learning Centre, an Australia based company, with support from the Participating Police Force (PPF).The program was designed specifically for the RSIPF with a Solomon Islands focus which made it relevant to the learners. Feedback from the participants and RSIPF Academy staff involved reflected that the program was regarded as highly successful and had exceeded the aims of the program.In her closing statement to the course, RSIPF Acting Commissioner Juanita MATANGA, said “This has been a very successful and very important program for you as RSIPF Trainers. I look forward to all of you developing the skills that you have learnt during the program and applying it in your workplace training both within Honiara and the provinces. To the HBA Learning Centre Trainers, Julian and Nicole, I thank for delivering such a successful program.”The program was timed to ensure that participants had completed the qualification prior to the commencement of the next RSIPF Recruit Training Program due on 4 April 2016. This enables the RSIPF Police Academy Trainers to enhance their skills, learning concepts and then apply their skills as trainers / assessors on the Recruit Program as well as other training including Investigations, Detective Training and specialist training.The RSIPF is scheduled to recruit and train 140 new officers in 2016.
