RSIPF Investigators Benefit from Cybercrime Workshop

Investigators of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) now have a better understanding of how to deal with cybercrime offences following the completion of a Cybercrime Workshop at the Rove Headquarters on 13 June 2018.

The Workshop started from 11 – 13 June, and was attended by 25 police investigators from Honiara City, Guadalcanal Province and the Rove Police Headquarters.

Assistant Commissioner (AC) Crime and Intelligence, Ian Vaevaso says, “The workshop provided an overview of how cybercrime offences are committed and prepared investigators with the knowledge of how and where to start when investigating such offences.”

AC Vaevaso says, “The workshop gave investigators knowledge of who they need to liaise with locally or globally during investigations and the type of assistance they can get from the service providers.”

He adds: “The workshop provided investigators with an understanding of what Cybercrime is and the need for legislation.”

The topics delivered during the workshop include;

• Solomon Island Government(SIG) Information Communication Technology (ICT) Policy
• Cybercrime, Technology and Legislation
• Technology and devices encountered in cybercrime, including evidence that can be obtained from devices and how it can be exploited
• On line tools to assist investigations
• Social Media
• Practical Exercises (Computer)

The Cybercrime Workshop was coordinated and funded by the Solomon Islands Police Development Program (SIPDP).
