RSIPF checks 200 vehicles as part of traffic operation in Honiara

Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) National Traffic Department checked 200 vehicles last night (8 May 2020) during an operation in front of the Honiara City Central Police Station.

Director of the National Traffic Department Superintendent Fredrick Satu says, “Eight motor vehicles were impounded for presence of alcohol in the driver's blood and two motor vehicles for being unlicensed.”

“Eight accused were placed in cell at the Central watch house for bridging traffic regulations. Out of eight motor vehicles impounded only one person tested positive under the legal prescribed level of alcohol in a person's blood."

Superintendent Satu says, “Two accused were bailed to appear at the Kukum Traffic Centre today (9 May 2020) and nine cases warned for prosecution.”

Traffic officers in Honiara will continue on with the traffic operation this weekend.

"I call on all drivers and vehicle owners to observe all traffic regulations to ensure the safety of all road users in our capital city. Please don't drink and drive. If you have to drink let someone else drive or use public transport," Superintendent Satu emphasizes.
