Deputy Commissioner RSIPF visits officers in Central Province
The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Deputy Commissioner Operation Juanita Matanga visited officers at the Tulagi Police Station in the Central Province on 15 May 2020 to discuss the Station’s preparations for the coronavirus (COVID-19) and issues of discipline.
Officers at the Tulagi Police Station welcomed DC Matanga with a parade on her arrival.
During a muster with the officers, DC Matanga highlighted key messages to equip police officers with relevant information on the COVID-19 should there be any outbreak of the virus in the country
“RSIPF, like any other law enforcement agency in the world have a key role to play in both supporting the implementation of public health measures to contain the outbreak and in preventing specific criminal activities arising from any outbreak of the COVID-19,” says DC Matanga.
She told the officers: “When dealing with uncooperative individuals, limit contact and practice hand hygiene. Policing duties can potentially expose officers to COVID-19. Before coming back into direct contact with other officers at the work place and loved ones at home make sure you wash yourselves with soap.”
“As part of the COVID -19 Operation Plan to assist the Government’s efforts to prevent any outbreak of the virus in Solomon Islands, RSIPF officers are also advised to prepare their families in engaging in farming or growing root crops for the sustainability of their livelihood as we’re uncertain when will the virus will reach our shores or when it will finish.”
“I therefore appeal to officers at the Tulagi Police Station to maintain discipline at the highest level and manage whatever resources we have as we assist in the fight against the COVID-19 reaching our shores,” says DC Matanga
