The alleged gunshot incident that caused serious concern for residents within the areas around East Kola Ridge and Naha 3 is NOT true.Police received numerous reports of explosions that were heard within the vicinity of East Kola Ridge and Naha 3 Height at approximately 8:00 pm on Thursday, 5 May 2016.Members of the surrounding communities were obviously alarmed and concerned which was evident through the number of enquiries that came through the Police Communication Centre.The report was passed on to Naha Police Station and officers there immediately carried out an investigation into the matter. The police investigation led to the identification to two male teenagers who are residents of Naha 3 Height area. The teenagers are 15 year old and 19 year old respectively. Both were taken to Naha Police Station where they were questioned and later conveyed to Honiara City Police where they were lodged at the station’s watch-house. It is important for members of the public to understand that possessing and or detonating explosive devices are unlawful and anyone found involved in such activities can be prosecuted.Police therefore appeal to the public, especially those who may have any information in relation to such activities to advice families, relatives and friends to stay away from any explosive device and report to police immediately.Police Investigators have also recovered evidence at the scene where the incident allegedly took place. The items are being kept at the Honiara City Police station as exhibits.
