Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Lata in the Temotu Province have mediated a land related issue which happened 15 years ago between two parties over a piece of land at No’ole farm Santa Cruz Island on 21 May 2020.

Initial report says that the two disputing persons were already victims and suspects in the same land case. A lot of attempts have been made to settle the matter but were not successful.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Temotu Province Superintendent James Toaki says, “Upon receiving a report from the Paramount Chief, Colton Medobu about the issue, police and chiefs mediated the issue and both parties agreed to compensate each other at a reconciliation ceremony planned for 7 June 2020”

PPC adds: “The best thing to do is to reconcile ourselves outside of the court. “This is a reconciliation that comes from the heart. RSIPF appeals to chiefs in all communities around the province to seek police assistance in solving any long standing issues that may cause the breach of peace.”

“I want to thank the chiefs, elders and police officers involved in the successful mediation. RSIPF further appeals to members of the community in the entire Province to join hands and fight unwanted issues to make Temotu Province a safe, secure and peaceful place to live and enjoy,” says PPC Toaki
