Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Auki and Atori in Malaita Province have arrested three male suspects in relation to the death of a 21-year-old male in North East Malaita on 10 June 2020.

The suspects include two 19-year-olds and a 22-year-old.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province, Superintendent William Foufaka says, “Police received the report and travelled to the area of the incident. The dead body was found floating at sea near Usu’usue, Ata’a.”

Supervising PPC Superintendent Foufaka says, “The deceased had wounds on his right and left arm. It is believed that the motive behind the incident was that two of the three suspects tried to retrieve a canoe taken by the deceased from Ato village.”

“During the argument it is alleged the deceased stabbed one of the suspects with a knife. The other suspect grabbed the knife from the deceased and cut his right and left arm while the other suspect used a paddle to hit the deceased.”

Superintendent Foufaka says, “The three suspects are likely to face murder charges depending on the outcome of the investigation. I call on anyone who might have any information about this incident to come forward and help police. I call on both parties to refrain from taking the law in to your own hands. Let the police deal with the matter.”

He says, “My condolence to the family and relatives of the young man who passed away unexpectedly.
