Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have charged a senior government officer with careless driving following a traffic accident involving a government motor vehicle, which happened early morning Saturday 4 July 2020 near the Iron Bottom Sound Hotel in West Honiara.

It is alleged the G-plated hilux vehicle was travelling in a westerly direction when the motor vehicle veered off the road and collided into a concrete wall outside the Iron Bottom Sound Hotel. The motor vehicle sustained damages while the senior government officer escaped any injuries.

Director of the National Traffic Department Superintendent Fred Satu says, “The driver of the motor vehicle underwent a Random Breatherlizer Test (RBT) administered by Traffic Officers and confirmed that the presence of alcohol in his blood was below the legal prescribed level.”

The accused was arrested today (9 July 2020) and charged with one case of careless driving. He has been bailed to appear before the Honiara Central Magistrates’ Court on 21st July 2020.

“I want to remind all drivers including drivers of Government motor vehicles that careless driving must be stopped. Always take all precautions when using the road otherwise you will only be risking your own life and that of others. Please adhere to the traffic rules and regulations as they are there for your own and others’ safety,” Superintendent Satu emphasises.
