Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force at the Henderson Police Station are investigating the burning down of the Aviation Head Office building at the eastern end of the Honiara International Airport at Henderson between 2 and 3 am on 7 July 2020

RSIPF Deputy Commissioner Ian Vaevaso told a weekly police media conference today: “Upon receiving a report on the fire officers at the Henderson Police Station called the RSIPF Fire and Rescue Services while the officers at Henderson went to secure the area around the burning building. Fire fighters attended and attempted to put off the fire but were unsuccessful since the building had already burnt down.

“It is believed that there were no security officers located at the building.”

Deputy Commissioner Vaevaso adds: “Police officers from the Henderson Police Station Criminal Investigation Department together with Forensic Officers attended the scene and investigations are now underway to find the cause of the fire.”

“As the matter is of public interest and has affected Solomon Islands Government resources, a team has been put together to speed up the investigation. The investigation is a complex one. No leads have been established as yet since a number of witnesses are yet to be interviewed.”

“I want to appeal to the people living in and around the Henderson area to come forward with any information to help the Police investigation in to this matter,” says Deputy Commissioner Vaevaso
