RSIPF investigates fatal road accident in Malaita Province
Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) at the Auki Police Station in Malaita Province have arrested and charged the driver of a three-ton truck which was involved in the death of an adult female person in East Malaita on 10 July 2020.
Acting Police Commissioner Mostyn Mangau told the weekly Commissioner’s media conference today, “The initial report stated that the accident involved a three-ton truck travelling from East Fataleka to Auki when the accident happened at the Kwaiabu. The deceased is believed to have jumped out of the vehicle when the vehicle stopped and was rolling down the hill. The female died instantly. The deceased was from Kwaigeo Village.”
“The driver of the motor vehicle has been arrested and charged with two counts, one for causing death by wreckless or dangerous driving contrary to section 30 of the Road Traffic Act and one for driving without a valid driving license contrary to section 20 (1) of the Road Traffic Act,” says Acting Commissioner Mangau.
The defendant is out on bail and will appear in Court on 22 July 2020.
“My condolences to the immediate family and relatives of the deceased after the tragic loss of one of their members,” says Acting Commissioner Mangau.
“I want to appeal to the motor vehicle drivers to always make sure you have a valid license and think of the safety of your passengers whenever you are travelling on our roads,” Acting Commissioner Mangau emphasizes.
