RSIPF EOD team to conduct bomb blasting task in Mbarana area, east of Honiara
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) will conduct a live demolition of bombs in the Mbarana Area, east of Honiara between 9 am to 4 pm on Tuesday 28 July 2020.
Officer in-charge of the EOD team, Inspector Clifford Tunuki says, “The task is in response to multiple UXO reports from the local community. To date, not all of the UXOs have been removed due to the rough terrain, steep valleys and the physical status of the bombs where they have been located. For safety reasons the unexploded bombs will now have to be destroyed on site.”
“Farmers, hunters and the general public in the Mbarana area, Bao Village and the surrounding communities are warned to keep out from the area during the time of the Operation from 9 am to 4 pm tomorrow Tuesday 28 July 2020.”
“Safe evacuations of the Mbarana community will be conducted on the day of the operation,” says Inspector Tunuki.
“I call upon the local communities within the Mbarana area to cooperate as the EOD team will carry out the task for the safety of the communities living in and around the area. Safety is everybody’s responsibility,” Inspector Tunuki emphasizes.
