RSIPF records decrease in traffic incidences in Honiara

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force, (RSIPF) National Traffic Department recorded eight traffic incidences during the period 31 July to 6 August 2020 in Honiara compared to the previous week when 31 cases were reported.

All the cases were reported by the officers of the National Traffic Department.

Director of the National Traffic Department Superintendent Fred Satu explains, “Last week we recorded a total of five cases for presence of alcohol in a person’s blood, one case each for permitting unlicensed motor vehicle, driving without a driver’s license and permitting unlicensed driver.”

“This decrease in figures for this week shows that vehicle drivers and owners are starting to follow the regulations governing the use of our roads. This type of action must continue to avoid more traffic offences. We must do more to reduce traffic offences on our roads as the country continues under the State of Public Emergency including the Emergency Zone in Honiara from Poha in the West and Alligator Creek in the East,” says Superintendent Satu.

He adds, “RSIPF will continue to emphasize DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE to remind us when using the roads and I want to remind the general public to continue to abide by our traffic laws. They are there to safeguard us.”

The accused have been charged for their respective offences and have been bailed to appear before the Honiara Central Magistrates’ Court on their respective dates.
