RSIPF arrests 77 yr old for raping step granddaughter

RSIPF officers at the Naha Police Station in Honiara have arrested a 77-year-old male person for allegedly raping his four years four months old step granddaughter in the Top Timber area, Ranadi, East Honiara on 10 August 2020.

The complainant is the mother of the victim who also lives in the Top Timber area at Ranadi.

Deputy Commissioner Ian Vaevaso says, “It is alleged that at 1 pm on 10 August 2020 the victim was playing inside their house whilst her mother was inside their room breast-feeding the victim’s younger sister.”

He explain, “It is alleged that the suspect who was inside the other room, called the victim to go to him and the child went to him. For almost half an hour the mother of the victim didn’t hear her talking or making any noise at all. The mother got up and looked through a small hole on the walling of the room only to see that the suspect was sexually assaulting the victim,” suspect.”

“The mother of the victim then called her to come over to her and the victim came back to her mother. The victim told her mother the truth when she was asked.”

“Upon hearing the story, the mother took the victim to Naha Police Station and reported the matter to police.”

Police at Naha then responded to her report and arrested the suspect and placed him in the cell.

Deputy Commissioner Vaevaso added “The suspect was dealt with on 11 August 2020 and he was formally charged for rape contrary to section 136F (1) (a) & (b) of the Penal Code cap 26 as amended by the Penal Code (amendment) (sexual offences ) Act 2016 and was remanded at the Rove Correctional Centre on 12 August 2020.”

“The suspect has been remanded at the Rove Correctional Centre while the investigation continues. The victim has been taken to Seif Ples in Honiara for medical examination,” says DC Vaevaso
