RSIPF investigates suspicious death in Guadalcanal Province
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Guadalcanal Province are investigating the death of a 17-year-old male person from Balo Village in the Weather Coast of Guadalcanal on 9 August 2020.
Police at Marau received a report on 9 August 2020 from parents of the deceased saying their son went missing on Saturday 8 August 2020 after he did not return home in the evening and whole of the night.
Deputy Commissioner Ian Vaevaso explains, “The immediate family members of the deceased went searching for him in the nearby villages in early Sunday 9 August 2020. His elder brother found the deceased lying on the ground on his belly with a rope still tied around his neck in a bush at Balo Point.”
“On 11 August 2020, a team of police investigators from Guadalcanal Province and RSIPF Forensic officers accompanied a pathologist to perform a post mortem on the dead body.”
AC Vaevaso says, “The investigation is still continuing into the cause of death. Police strongly appeal to the communities around Balo Village to come forward with any information they may have on this sad incident. Please contact RSIPF officers at the Marau Police Station or Henderson Police Station on Tel: 36200. “
“RSIPF acknowledges the parents of the deceased for allowing the post mortem to be carried out on their late son’s body. This will greatly assist in the investigation into the cause of death.”
“Our condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased for the loss of such a young life,” says DC Vaevaso.
