RSIPF charges suspect for alleged grievous harm in Makira Ulawa Province

Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) at Kirakira in Makira Ulawa Province have arrested and charged a male suspect in his 30s for an alleged incident of grievous harm following an incident at Tawatana Village, West Makira on 15 August 2020.

It is alleged that the suspect struck another male person with a bush knife on his right wrist. The alleged incident followed a previous incident during which the victim allegedly killed the suspect’s dog.

Provincial Police Commander Makira Ulawa Province Superintendent Peter Sitai says, “The suspect was arrested after the incident and placed in custody at the Kirakira Police Station The suspect was later charged with grievous harm contrary to section 226 of the Penal Code and remanded at the Kirakira Correctional Centre to appear in court at a later date.

“I would like to remind the general public in Makira Ulawa Province that this type of crime is unacceptable in our communities. This crime is serious and carries a maximum penalty of 14 years imprisonment.”
