Confiscated COVID -19 medical supplies released as investigation continues
The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) has released confiscated COVID-19 medical equipment supplied by the Republic of China on Taiwan to the Malaita Provincial Government equipment following advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP).
The RSIPF and the Customs Department seized the equipment last month following a formal complaint from the Office of the Attorney General about the suspicious nature of the consignment.
“RSIPF has investigated the complaint and a report was sent to the ODPP. The ODPP then advised the RSIPF to release the equipment but the investigation into the matter continues. Our investigators have taken photographs of the equipment as evidence before releasing them,” says RSIPF Commissioner Mostyn Mangau
He adds, “No one has been arrested or no charges have been laid against any one so far as the investigation into the matter continues.”
The COVID-19 medical equipment was released to the Malaita Provincial Government on 17 August 2020.
