Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) at Gizo in the Western Province are investigating the discovery of the body of a 17-year-old female who believed to have hanged herself in an incomplete house at the Gizo Top Hill on 20 August 2020.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province Mathias Lenialu says, “When police officers arrived at the scene, the body of the deceased was hanging in a vertical position from the ceiling of the building with a lavalava.”

“The body of the deceased was taken to a doctor for examination. Relatives were satisfied with the explanation from the doctor on the cause of death. The relatives have taken the body for burial at her village on Vella La Vella Island in the Western Province.”
PPC Lenialu says, “My condolences to the relative of the deceased for the loss of their dear daughter.”

Police at Gizo appeal to the people living in and around the Gizo Top Hill area to come forward with any information that may assist with the investigation in this sad incident.

“I want to urge youth in the Western Province to approach their parents, close relatives or their best friend if they have issues that are bothering them as young people growing up during these challenging times. I also encourage parents and relatives to look out for signs that might indicate their children are having any problems and to find time to sit down and talk with them,” says PPC Lenialu
