The National Crime Prevention Department (NCPD) of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) today met with communities in Honiara at the Rove Police Headquarters to outline the RSIPF commitment to crime prevention in the capital city.

Director of the NCPD, Superintendent Sisimia says, “The meeting is to outline the RSIPF commitment to harm reduction and crime prevention over the four-year period 2019-2022 which has always been a core aspect of policing. This is evident on a number of fronts through mediation, reconciliation of cases throughout the country without going through the legal judiciary process.”

“This respect for tradition reinforces the key roles of leaders in our communities and the traditional role of chiefs in crime and harm prevention activities as well the importance of family and wantok relationship,” says Superintendent Sisimia.

He explains, “The RSIPF Crime Prevention strategy builds on this history and incorporates problem solving with stakeholders and communities to address the larger issues which drive community demand for police assistance.”

“The strategy puts the community at the forefront of everything the police do which will always utilize problem-solving to guide the way we do our duties and look at more innovative ways to prevent crime.”

“On the current establishment of crime prevention committees throughout the city, we have noticed the significant success in preventing crime to a certain level. I would like to say that the work carried out by the crime prevention set ups is outstanding and decrease crime the police have struggled with for many years,” Superintendent Sisimia told the participants in the meeting

“I appeal to the government and private sector to support the initiatives by the crime prevention committees in Honiara for the betterment of the city and the country at large.”

Chairperson of the Green Valley Community in East Honiara Peter Kennedie Bubu told the meeting, “The link between police and Green Valley community is very helpful in terms of crime reduction. Green Valley community today is well organised to implement the current Crime Prevention Strategy. We support police by dealing with some small problems in our community of Green Valley. For the bigger issues that are beyond us we call the police to arrest and charge those responsible.”
