RSIPF arrests suspect for stealing a large amount of cash in Guadalcanal Province
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Henderson Police Station east of Honiara have arrested a male suspect for allegedly stealing a large amount of cash from a residential house in the Henderson area between Friday night and early morning of Saturday 29 August 2020.
An initial report says the complainant and his wife were at work in the Supreme Casino in the Kukum area East Honiara when the incident occurred. It is alleged that the suspect entered the complainant’s residence and stole a cash box containing SBD$300,000.00(Solomon dollars) AUD$20,000.00(Australian dollars) and GBP 5, 000.00 (British pounds).
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Guadalcanal province Chief Superintendent Ishmael Vunagi says, “The matter was reported to police at Henderson and the suspect was arrested and placed in police custody.”
“The Criminal Investigation Department at the Henderson Police Station is still investigating the matter and so far there is still no recovery of the stolen money.”
PPC Vunagi says, “The suspect, believed to be a former employee of the complainant, is still under police custody awaiting further dealings and a remand application.”
“I call on the general public in the Henderson area and Honiara as well as the Banks to keep a look out for any individual that may be wanting to exchange Australian dollars or British pounds. Please call the police at the Henderson Police Station on phones 36200 or 36202. And employers are advised to seek a police clearance from any one you intend to employ,” says PPC Vunagi..
