New RSIPF Commissioner committed to gender equality

As the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) continues to lead across the Pacific in in gender equality, the new RSIPF Commissioner Mostyn Mangau is committed to gender equality in the Force.

Opening the RSIPF Women’s Advisory Network (WAN) Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara today (17 September 2020), Commissioner Mangau told the women police officers from Honiara and the provinces participating in the two-day meeting that “the RSIPF is considered among leaders across the Pacific in relation to the work we are undertaking to improve Gender Equality."

“As the new RSIPF Commissioner, I am committed to improving work practices through policies and strategies and supporting the work of the RSIPF WAN and Gender Coordinator. Since taking up my new appointment as the Commissioner, I have also taken on the role as the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police Executive Leader for the WAN,” says Commissioner Mangau.

“I was proud to speak at the recent Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) meeting about my commitment to WAN. I have recommenced regular meetings with the RSIPF WAN Chair and Gender Coordinator to ensure I can foster a positive working relationship to progress action items against the RSIPF Gender Strategy.”

Commissioner Mangau adds, “I have ensured gender action items align where applicable to the new PICP WAN Strategic Direction 2020-2024 and RSIPF Strategic Directions and Annual Business Plan. Every RSIPF Director and Senior Executive Officer has a link in their work plans to improve Gender Equity. I intend to ensure the RSIPF continues to lead the way.”

“Continued progress is only possible when we also have your commitment to take action to progress gender. Please get involved, give your insights, input and ideas for solution and actions,” says Commissioner Mangau.

The two-day RSIPF WAN AGM will elect a new Executive Committee led by a Chairperson. The AGM will also discuss the RSIPF WAN work plan, success and achievements of WAN including the launch of a WAN Facebook page, professionalism and discipline, education and opportunity for women, issues affecting police women in the provinces and gender issues in the Pacific region.
