Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) assisted the Sheriff of the High Court to serve an eviction order in relation to the unlawful occupation of land owned by Asian company Samlinson in the Henderson area east of Honiara.

There were criticisms from some members of the public targeting police about the High Court eviction order on the land owned by Samlinson.

Officers from the Sheriff of the High Court served the eviction order on the people living on the Samlinson owned land on the other side of the Don Bosco School along RAMSI Street.

RSIPF Commissioner Mostyn Mangau explains, “The role of the RSIPF when implementing any eviction order is to see that the behaviour and attitude on the ground is in harmony with the law. Police is not there to take sides with any particular party in the dispute as some members of the public are made to believe.”

“Police are merely acting on an order for them to be present to ensure law and order is maintained. Police will arrest anyone that breaks the law when the eviction order is being carried out. Police in this situation are to remain neutral and not to take any sides”

“Prior to implementing the eviction order I understand that notices and advice have been given to residents in good time to vacate the area. Enforcing an eviction order is always sensitive so it is very important that police are present to ensure the order is carried out peacefully,” says Commissioner Mangau.
